✷ Character Information ✷
Full Name: Merida of Dunbroch. Goes by Merida.
Canon: Brave
Age: 15
Point in Canon: End of movie
✷ History: A wild wiki link appears
✷ Personality: Merida is a very head strong sort of girl. Once she has her mind set to something, she's unlikely to ever change it, or even allow change to be suggested to her. That's not to say she's completely set in her ways, it just takes her time to get used to ideas that aren't necessarily her own, or exactly what she wants to do. She's also a very brave person if a little foolish about it, facing whatever comes her way head on with little worries about the consequences may be. She acts on her impulses just like her father, and is also very loud. It can be said that she resembles him the most in terms of her personality.
Merida is very disdainful of her heritage as a princess, preferring a life wihtout the rules, customs, and traditions that go with her social status and thus trap her into a life that is not the type she would chose for herself. She does not fit the mold of the perfect princess that her mother would prefer, being very athletic and more prone to riding her horse and practising archey or sword fighting than practising her needle point. This has lead her to have a bit of a short-temper, seeing everything as being against her and what she wants to do with her life. Rather fitting of the stereotype of firey red-head, Merida's temper burns quick and hot, but she has been known to hold a grudge when particularly incensed. There is also a level of selfishness to Merida. She wants what she wants, and while she may not necessarily go to such extremes as she did when she got a spell to turn her Mother into a bear to stop herself from being married off, she is willing to try to chance any situation to her advantage, or at least to something that she would prefer.
In a contrast to this hot temper and selfish behaviour, Merida is very calm in stressful and dangerous situations, being able to converse with the three Lords and pull them back from the brink of war with her words instead of her actions. At her core, Merida is a kind and caring girl to those who are closest to her, and it is this kindess that allows for her calmness when the need arises.
Merida's relationship with her mother is also another important factor when regarding her personality. When she was young, they were extremely close but as she grew older, they grew apart and their differences caused a rift between them. Both being stubborn people, they thought the other was at fault and refused to consider their own actions. This led to Merida getting the spell from the Witch which turned her Mother into a bear. However, this spell also lead to Merida and her mother finding common interests and listening to each other once again, bringing them back to the closer relationship they once shared. It also helped that Merida realised that blaming everyone else for faults that she herself had caused was part of the problem. Though to be fair, this wasn't as much as realisation as it was her breaking down and admitting that she was sorry, and she didn't mean for it to happen.
Merida seems to have a huge fear of not measuring up to the standards that her Mother wants for her, which arguably is what lead to the rift between them in the first place. Her strengths lie in the warrior side of things, not the diplomatic, but her Mother insists the importance of the latter on her as being the correct way for a lady to do things. This fear leads to Merida being bull-headed and disconnected when it comes to her lessons, and ultimately rebellious when her Mother tries to enforce it on her. Despite common beliefs, she's not against marriage, nor is she scared of the idea of it, but rather she believes that she is too young - on some level Merida is very aware of the fact that she is not mature enough yet for marriage, and the idea of being forced to be wed before she had reached the point that she feels capable of being so it abhorrent to her.
Her relationships with her Father and her brothers are far more easy-going than that of the relationship with her Mother, largely because they are fine with her the way she is. Fergus, being a great warrior himself, indulges her liking of swords and archery, using a history lesson on the Clan Dunbroch to test her sword skills. Merida reacts positively, showing that when given the correct motivation, she can give very articulate answers that her Mother would be proud of. She's very much in the cool big sister role for her little brothers, being able to help them in getting more sweets and doing so without gaining the attention of their parents. She does seem to harbour a little bit of jealously that they are young enough to not constantly be reprimanded by their Mother for their behaviour, but at the same time, she loves her little brothers and would do anything to protect them.
✷ Magical Powers: Merida does not have any magical powers
✷ Skills and Weapons: Merida is very skilled in horse riding, archey, and sword fighting. Her most commonly used weapon is her bow, which is with her at all times. She also carries a sword some of the time, but this is not as iconic a weapon with her as her bow is. She has been interested in archery since a very young age, and her father gave her her first bow for her 5th birthday, teaching her the basic skills which she has long since mastered. She claims that she is the best archer in Clan Dunbroch, and events at Games would suggest that she may be the best archer among the clans as well. She takes pride in this skill, and pride in her bow, which she decorates with carvings.
✷ Inventory: With her, Merida brought her bow and arrows, and a sword. Nothing else.
✷ Monster: 1. Vampire. Being a vampire require incredible focus, something which Merida shows the capabilty to have when considering her skills at archery.
2. Lycanthrope. Merida turning into a bear is a hilarious image. Three animals she would be able to turn into are: bear, wolf, or dog.
3. Ragdoll. With the amount of danger Merida throws herself into, being that bit extra durable would be a good thing on her side.
✷ What caused your character to drink the potion? Honestly? It was a bit of a mistake that she drank the potion. She did think the idea of travelling to different worlds to explore and learn was amazing, but she saw the potion and thought it was some prank that her little brothers' were playing on her. She drank it to play along and, well, she didn't actually think it would work...
✷ First Person Sample: [To say she was surprised would be putting it very lightly. What was even in that drink the wee devils left out for her? She felt right weird and nothing looked like it should have done. Maybe she had gotten dreadful collywobbles like Mum always warned her.]
Alright lads, you got me, I fell for the joke. Well done, you.
[Her voice was raised slightly, calling on brothers she was sure would appear any moment now, giggling about their latest joke and how easily their sister played into it.]
Now let that be the end o' it an' we'll say no more, alright?
[There was a disturbing silence, in which Merida looked around with wide eyes, breathing becoming slightly erratic. It never took the boys this long to reply, never.]
Boys?
[She stepped forward, and actually began to look. She could feel the cool ground underneath her, and the chill in the air. Unlike back at the castle, there was no general rumble of the people working around her, and the smell... Finally, Merida began to realise that no, this wasn't just some odd little daydream she was having. This... was not good.]
Where am I?
✷ Third Person Sample:
Merida stared at the vial that was sitting on her table, and let out a not very delicate snort. The boys were really getting silly in their ideas for what would make a good prank, she thought. A potion that would allow you to travel to different worlds, where did they even come up with that one? Though... it wouldn't be all that bad. Being able to travel to different worlds. She only ever really saw the lands of DunBroch and while they were beautiful - you wouldn't want to be anywhere else in the Highlands - she'd explored every nook and cranny of the place.
"Aye, like this wee thing would change any o' that," she muttered, holding up the vial and looking at the liquid inside. "A magic potion to take a person anywhere they'd like..." Her brothers were clearly using the fact that she was always looking for something new to their advantage for this wee joke of theirs, but there'd be no living with them if she didn't go through with it. Sighing, she unstopped the vial.
"Och," she said, loud enough to be overheard by the three wee devils she was sure were hiding just out of sight, "I wonder what places I'll see wi' this then," she raised in vial in a silent toast out of habit, before lifting it to her lips, and drinking down the potion inside. She raised her sleeve to her mouth, wiping it clean, before sitting the vial down. "Well, that's that."

Why do you want to join Halloween Town: I had heard about the game through your ads on plurk. Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favourite movies, so I was naturally intrigued about a game using that setting. A friend at the game also made it sound very fun.
Do you have any questions?: None at the moment.
